Oakland Dog Lovers
As a long time Bay Area resident and dog owner, it has been commonly understood that Oakland isn’t a very dog friendly city, or at least as far as dog parks is concerned. However, the Oakland Dog Owners Group (ODOG) has been working to change both that perception and the reality. I was invited by former client and ODOG President, Emily R, to help celebrate a recent victory on April 19th at one of the newly designated off-leash areas, Estuary Park off Embarcadero.
ODOG has good reason to be happy as the Oakland City Council unanimously approved a change to city law regarding dogs in parks. It looks like those “No Dogs in Parks” signs are going to start coming down all over Oakland and to the great relief of the many dog owners in the City.
I had a chance to say hi to Mayor Jean Quan and several members of the Oakland City Council that were responsible for making this happen. And I also enjoyed meeting several of the dog owners who brought their dogs out on this beautiful Saturday to enjoy eating cake and playing fetch.
Keep up the good work Emily and ODOG. All of us dog lovers thank you!
